In the spring of 1995, Chrysler brought the new Sebring  onto the market as a coupé in the so-called cab-forward design - with the passenger cabin moved far forward and a short front end; It differed from the Dodge Avenger mainly in the more conventional design of the front section with a radiator grille between the headlights, a more angular window line and C-pillar as well as an independent rear. The Sebring was available as a basic LX model with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts (maximum output: 104 kW), paired with a five-speed gearbox, and as a more extensively equipped Sebring LXi with a 2.5-liter V6 engine (maximum output : 116 kW) including four-speed automatic transmission. In 1996, the maximum output of the V6 engine was increased to 121 kW (165 hp).

At the end of 1997, the vehicle was given a facelift, which was recognizable by the larger radiator grille, on which now sat the winged Chrysler emblem. Otherwise, the changes during the Sebring's life were limited to small details.
