The Chrysler Airstream was a passenger car that Chrysler manufactured in the 1935 and 1936 model years. The Airstream was a conventional-looking automobile that was supposed to give the impression of an aerodynamic construction. A similar car under the same name was also offered by Chrysler's low-cost brand DeSoto during this period.
The need for the Airstream arose from the lack of popularity of the streamlined airflow , which customers refused to embrace. The Airstream was based on Chrysler's 1933 CO model , which production continued in 1934 under the designation CA / CB . When the Airflow's interest or taste of the potential buyer is not met, revised Chrysler the CA model, it provided them with rear wheel covers and so presented a vehicle from which they hoped that the buyers in the time of global economic crisis may please. With the Airstream, which was sold alongside the Airflow, Chrysler finally fulfilled the wishes of interested parties and hoped to produce so many Airflows on the side that its development would have paid off.
In the first year of production five times more Airstream than Airflow were sold, in the second year it was almost nine times as many.
At the end of the 1936 model year, Chrysler discontinued its own Airstream models and DeSoto's .
