The LHS, together with the New Yorker and a year after the Concorde, the Intrepid and the Vision, was presented at the North American International Auto Show in 1993. The market launch took place in May 1993. The design followed the cab-forward philosophy propagated by Chrysler for the first time and featured a long wheelbase, relatively short overhangs and a passenger cabin with a correspondingly short bonnet that extended far forward. The LHS was a modification of the original LH design with a new, more conventional front section and a modified roof line that is somewhat reminiscent of older Jaguar models.

The first generation of LHS was based on the LH platform of the Chrysler -Konzerns and was closely related to the same models produced Chrysler Concorde , New Yorker and the Dodge Intrepid and Eagle Vision . There was no Plymouth variant.

The vehicle was produced from February 1993 at Chrysler's Bramlea plant in Canada.

When it appeared, the LHS was Chrysler's top model and in this capacity replaced the Chrysler Imperial . The only available engine was the 3.5-liter V6 engine with a maximum output of 160 kW (214  hp ) in conjunction with a four-speed automatic transmission .

In 1995 the automatic transmission was revised with a view to smoother gear changes. No major modifications were made until the first series ran out in summer 1997.

Chrysler produced a total of 146,000 copies of the first generation LHS.

After a year of absence, the second generation LHS debuted in 1998 and featured a modernized, more rounded cab-forward design with slightly larger dimensions and more interior space. This LHS version was the sister model to the Chrysler 300M introduced at the same time , which had a shorter tail than the LHS. In contrast to the first generation, the LHS body of this generation corresponded to that of the Chrysler Concorde down to the smallest detail.

The hood is made of aluminum.

The drive was again provided by the 3.5-liter V6 engine, but now with 189 kW (253 hp), in conjunction with a four-speed automatic transmission with manual shift function.

At the end of 2001, Chrysler stopped manufacturing the LHS and replaced it with the Limited luxury version of the Chrysler Concorde .
