The Chrysler New York Special was a luxury car that Chrysler produced in Detroit in model year 1938 as a special series of the Imperial of the C19 series .

The car had a side-controlled 8-cylinder in- line engine with a displacement of 4895 cm³ , which delivered 117 hp (85 kW). A higher compression engine with 124 hp (90 kW) was also available on request. A single-plate dry clutch and a three-speed transmission with floor shift the rear wheels were driven. All four wheels were braked hydraulically. The New York Special differed from the normal Imperial with 112 hp engine through the use of the more powerful machines of the Custom Imperial. He also had a slightly different grille, two-tone paintwork on request and better upholstery fabrics in the interior. In addition to the 4-door touring sedan (with a separate trunk), a business coupe with 2 doors and 2 seats was also offered, but it is not known that even one was sold. A total of 8,554 Chrysler Imperial touring sedans were manufactured that year. How many of them were New York Special is not known.

In the following year, the New Yorker replaced the New York Special.
