The Chrysler ME Four-Twelve is a prototype that DaimlerChrysler introduced under the brand name Chrysler in 2004.
Model history
The vehicle was first shown at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in 2004. It took less than a year to design and develop. It was built by December 29, 2003 at Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters Inc. in California. The name is derived from " M id E ngine with Four turbochargers on a Twelve -cylinder engine" ( mid-engine with four turbochargers on a V12 engine ). The projected top speed was 400 km / h above that of the McLaren F1 , but the car was never produced in small series.
Chrysler initially stated that the ME Four-Twelve should be a prototype for later series production. The project was later temporarily stopped because some objections came from the Mercedes-Benz SLR department. In the fall of 2005, Chrysler announced that the project would now presumably be further developed.
technology
body
The ME Four Twelve has a monocoque chassis, a sandwich construction with outer layers made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (KFK) and an aluminum honeycomb structure as the core. Monocoque chassis means that the frame is largely made from a single load-bearing shell. The largest part of the body also consists of KFK in combination with deformation zones made of aluminum. The engine is built into a subframe made of chrome-molybdenum steel, which was originally developed for hot zones in power plants. The car has a drag coefficient (c W value) of 0.358.
Another detail on the ME Four-Twelve is the active rear spoiler. It can be moved back 100 mm, producing 1356 N downforce at 299 km / h.
landing gear
The wheel suspensions consist of double wishbones, aluminum trailing arms, horizontally opposed combined spring shock absorbers with electronically controlled rebound and compression stages , stainless steel damper rods and flat torsion bars. The steering is a power-assisted rack- and- pinion steering and has a total gear ratio of 16: 1 with 2.4 turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock. The turning circle diameter is 11.0 m.
Braking system and wheels
The Chrysler has internally ventilated brake discs made of carbon ceramic (carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide ) with a diameter of 381 mm with six-piston brake calipers at the front and rear. The wheels are made of die-cast light metal with the dimensions 10 × 19 inches (front) and 12.5 × 20 inches (rear). The tire size is 265 / 35ZR19 at the front and 335 / 30ZR20 at the rear.
engine
The ME Four-Twelve has a mid-engine and rear-wheel drive . Here Chrysler has used a 60 ° V12 engine with 5980 cm³ displacement from AMG , which is equipped with four turbochargers that generate a maximum boost pressure of 2.86 bar. It has four overhead camshafts , three valves per cylinder, a compression ratio of 9.0: 1, dry sump lubrication and an electronic, sequential multi-point injection system . It develops 634 kW at a speed of 5750 rpm and a torque of 1152 Nm between 2500 and 6000 rpm. This corresponds to a specific output of 106 kW / l; the speed limit is 6800 rpm.
transmission
For the power transmission , the ME Four-Twelve has a seven-speed dual clutch transmission with wet clutches from Ricardo, which was specially manufactured for this car. The transmission can handle a shift in about 200 milliseconds.
Performance
- Acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h in 2.9 seconds
- Acceleration from 0 to 160 km / h in 6.2 seconds
- Top speed of 400 km / h
