The GAZ Volga Siber is a car model produced by the Russian manufacturer Gorkowski Avtomobilny Sawod from March 2008 to the end of 2010 . After more than 50 years, it was the last car model with the brand name Volga .
The aim of the vehicle was to create a technically up-to-date successor to the GAZ-31105 Volga in its basic form from 1969 . The car is based on the generation of the Chrysler Sebring , which was just discontinued in the USA at the time , whose production facilities have been completely taken over. Various parts, including the engines, continued to be supplied by Chrysler for reasons of quality .
Production was 20,000 units in 2008 and 2009. In 2010 the production of the Volga Siber increased to 65,000 units per year. The prices of the Volga Siber started at around 15,000 euros. If the model was successful, exports of the Volga Siber should also take place to Europe and Africa. In the second step, the model was to be anchored in these markets as a cheap Chrysler alternative. Further models from Chrysler should then follow this example after planning.
The hoped-for success did not materialize, however, and the model was discontinued accordingly. By the end of 2010, 5000 vehicles had been assembled from parts already produced.
With the discontinuation of the Siber, GAZ ended the production of cars for the time being. At the end of 2012 this was resumed in cooperation with Volkswagen , but no more models are manufactured.
