The Dodge Mirada was an upper middle class coupé offered by the US automobile manufacturer Dodge from 1979 to 1983 .
The Mirada was based on the Chrysler Group's rear-wheel drive J platform and was closely related to the second-generation Chrysler Cordoba, which was introduced at the same time, and the Chrysler Imperial from model years 1981 to 1983.
In the first year, the Mirada was offered as a basic model and as a Mirada S with sportier equipment, and you could order a CMX package that primarily comprised optical trim. A special feature of the time was the so-called convertible roof , a vinyl roof covering that looked like an open convertible top , which was available on request . The engines available for the Mirada were the 3.7-liter in-line six-cylinder, a 5.2-liter V8 and a 5.9-liter V8 with four-way carburettors; all engines were basically combined with the TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission.
In the 1981 model year, the convertible roof was included in the scope of delivery of the CMX package, equipment level S was deleted and the 5.9-liter was dropped from the range. In 1982 and 1983 the Mirada received only minimal changes, mainly affecting the available colors. In the summer of 1983 the Mirada, like its sister models mentioned above, was discontinued without replacement.
A total of almost 53,000 copies of the coupé were built.
