Presented in mid-2005 and sold since the end of 2005, 2006 is officially the first model year of the new Charger. This is a four-door sedan with minor similarities with previous Charger models. Only the introduction of a few paint colors, logos and engine variants to promote sales allows for deliberate comparisons. This time there are also variants with the well-known names R / T and Daytona (the latter also with the addition R / T).

The charger is based on the DaimlerChrysler LX platform , which was also used by the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Challenger and was also used in the Dodge Magnum . Many parts of the interior of the Magnum could also be found in the interior of the Charger. Production of the Magnum model was finally discontinued in 2008 after a facelift.

Below are the models with the engine outputs, the displacement of which is now also given in liters in the USA:

For the 2011 model year there was a major restyling with a completely new body for aerodynamic optimization. The most striking difference is the elimination of the upright rear wheel arches. In addition, there is a flatter windshield, a new radiator grille, new headlights and completely modified rear lights. These are now designed as a continuous strip of light using LED technology, similar to those on the Dodge Challenger . The wheelbase has also been slightly extended. The interior has been completely redesigned with higher quality materials and larger touchscreens for navigation and audio functions. In addition, there were performance increases on the engine side with simultaneously reduced consumption. The HEMI-V8 of the SRT8 variant (internally called "Apache") now has 6.4 l displacement.

  • SE / Rallye: 3.6 L V6, 218 kW (296 PS) / 353 Nm

Facelift (2015)

For the 2015 model year, the Charger got another facelift, which was rather cautious compared to the first. The front bumper, the radiator grille and the headlights have been changed, now with LED daytime running lights, which makes the front look much flatter. In addition, the car received a new rear section based on the Dodge Dart . In the side view, the lifted Charger remains unchanged except for new rim designs.

In the interior, the charger received a new steering wheel, new instrumentation including a fully configurable 7 "information display and new uconnect infotainment systems. The uconnect 5.0 basic system offered in the SE model received a larger display than its predecessor.

Comfort access , a touchscreen for the audio system and LED daytime running lights are standard in all Charger models . On request, however, the Charger can be ordered with a Beats audio system , adaptive cruise control , bi-xenon headlights with cornering lights, a lane change warning system and high beam assistant.

Furthermore, the Charger is now also available with the 717 hp " Hellcat " engine known from the Dodge Challenger , all other engines remained constant and are now coupled with a modern 8-speed automatic as standard.

  • SE / SXT: 3.6 L V6, 218 kW (296 PS) / 353 Nm
  • R / T: 5.7 L Hemi-V8, 275 kW (375 hp) / 535 Nm
