In 1955 the Meadowbrook fell away, making the Coronet the cheapest Dodge offer. The Royal was the middle range and the top model was the Custom Royal . The cars were powered by a V8 Chrysler Hemi engine with a capacity of 5211 cm³, which - depending on the carburettor equipment - made 218–260 bhp.

There were a number of construction variants:

  • 3- or 5-door station wagon - it was called Suburban
  • 2-door hardtop coupé - the Lancer
  • 2- or 4-door sedan

1958-1959

The 1958 and 1959 models of the Royal, Coronet and Custom Royal had DeSoto chassis but had fewer chrome trims. The engines available were the 4.4 liter V8 "Red Ram" or the "Super Red Ram" with 5.3-5.9 liters.

In the 1960 model year, the Royal was replaced by the Matador model.
