The Dodge 600 was a mid-range model with front-wheel drive offered by the US car manufacturer Dodge from 1983 to 1988 .
Model history
Body versions
From 1983 a four-door sedan, two-door coupés and convertibles were marketed under the model name Dodge 600:
- The sedan was the sister model of the Chrysler E Class and the Plymouth Caravelle , from which it differed only in insignificant details, and was based like this on the E platform . It was a 76 mm extended version of the K platform .
- A distinction must be made between convertibles and coupés. They were marketed as Dodge 400 in the model years 1981 and 1982 and were given the designation Dodge 600 from 1983, without having undergone any technical changes. They used the shorter wheelbase of the K-Cars and, apart from the radiator grille and equipment details, were with the two-door base model Dodge Aries identical.
Drive technology
The 600 models were powered by various four-cylinder engines installed across the front:
- Chrysler's own inline four-cylinder with a displacement of 2.2 liters served as the basic engine. It was initially only available as a naturally aspirated engine.
- From 1984 to 1988, a turbo version of the 2.2-liter four-cylinder was optionally available.
- From 1983 to 1985 a 2.6 liter four-cylinder engine could be ordered from Mitsubishi .
- From 1986 a four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters, developed by Chrysler, was available instead of the Mitsubishi engine.
Furnishing
The Dodge 600 was equipped with a digital instrument cluster with fluorescent display; the Electronic Voice Alert (EVA), which announced warnings from the instrument cluster, was available to order.
Facelift
In 1986 all variants received a facelift with a modified, rounder front section. The coupé and the convertible were discontinued in the summer of 1986 without replacement, the sedan remained in the range until the summer of 1988.
production
In total, Dodge produced around 230,000 of the 600 sedan (1982–1988), 37,700 of the coupe and 41,200 of the convertible (1983–1986).
The badge engineering for the Hongqi CA750F never went into production in China.
Other markets
The Dodge 600 was sold in Mexico under the name Dodge Magnum .
