The Dodge Ram 50 (also D50 in 1979 and 1980) was a small pickup truck that Mitsubishi made for Chrysler and sold under the brand name Dodge from 1979 to 1993 . Plymouth offered the car as the Plymouth Arrow Truck from 1979 to 1982. Mitsubishi itself marketed this car as Mighty Max in the USA from 1982 , but by then the Plymouth was no longer available.
All-wheel drive was available from 1982; From then on, the car was called Power Ram 50 , which fits into the nomenclature of the Dodge model range ( the all-wheel drive models were called Power Ram ). A turbo diesel was also offered in the USA between 1983 and 1986 .
In 1987 the Ram 50 was redesigned, but in the same year Chrysler introduced the successor Dodge Dakota . Still, the Ram 50 was sold for another seven years, presumably because the Ram 50 was a small pickup and the Dakota was a medium-sized one. The difference in size and price left a niche for the Ram 50 and its discontinuation in 1993 was more out of the desire to be independent from Mitsubishi than because of the outdated product concept.
