The 1974 Dodge Monaco was the joint successor to the 1965 Monaco and the Dodge Polara . A vehicle of this year in a police version and design, the so-called "Bluesmobil", plays an essential role in the film Blues Brothers .

This series was offered with a self-supporting body as the basic Monaco model, the Monaco Custom and the Monaco Brougham luxury version, the latter recognizable by the pop-up headlights , while the other versions had exposed double headlights. The vehicle had actually appeared at the wrong time, as the oil crisis started practically at the same time and demand for such large cars collapsed accordingly.

In 1975 Monaco Custom and Monaco Brougham were renamed Royal Monaco and Royal Monaco Brougham. The engines, which were further detoxified, including a newly available 5.2-liter eight-cylinder V-engine , developed 147 to 238 hp. In 1976 and 1977 there were only detailed changes. The simple Monaco was then replaced by a new model - a redesigned and smaller Dodge Coronet - in 1977 .

With a wheelbase of 3.09 to 3.15 meters, the vehicle was between 5.66 and 5.75 m long, 2.03 m wide and between 1.40 and 1.49 m high. The curb weight was given as 2005 to 2270 kg.

The model has been sold around 208,000 times. From 1965 to 1973 there were still over a million copies for Monaco and Polara combined.
