Ram Truck or Ram for short is a brand introduced in 2009 by the automobile manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles . It originated from the model name of the Dodge Ram , a commercial vehicle model from Dodge .

With the realignment of the brands after the merger of Chrysler with Fiat , Dodge will from now on also be a purely passenger car brand. According to this, Ram Trucks should concentrate on the needs of “real truck customers” instead of customers who buy a Dodge Ram as a status symbol. The experience that Fiat has so far gained with its own truck production under the Iveco brand and the also split off Fiat Professional can then also be useful .

Overall, these measures should lead to better results in terms of design, technology and ultimately also in sales.

Models

The core and flagship of the brand is the Ram . Now more commercial vehicle variants than Ram are offered than before under the brand name Dodge. For example, new models with significantly higher axle loads are now being offered. Therefore, the Ram 3500 has been replaced by the Ram 5500 as the most resilient representative to date. This is only produced as a chassis cab . The free space can then be provided with different structures (e.g. tipping body or fifth wheel). The size division of the cabin into “Regular Cab” (two-seater / two-door) and “Crew Cab” (four- / five-seater / four-door) remains unchanged. The equipment options range from simple ( ST ) to luxurious ( Laramie ) , depending on the model .

In addition to the flagship, the former Dodge Dakota was part of the program as Ram Dakota for one year . However, production stopped in 2011.

The second model launched in 2011 was a van model. The Ram C / V is the commercial vehicle version of the Dodge Grand Caravan and is therefore only available as a panel van .

The third model introduced in 2013 was the Ram ProMaster , a version of the Fiat Ducato that was adapted to American needs . After the separation from Daimler and the consequent abandonment of the Dodge Sprinter (a derivative of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ), Chrysler was missing a van in its portfolio. Out of consideration for the wishes of the Americans, the ProMaster is equipped with the V6 “Pentastar” engine from Chrysler. Since 2015, a variant of the Fiat Doblò as the Ram ProMaster City and the Fiat Strada and Fiat Fiorino in Mexico as the Ram 700 and Ram ProMaster Rapid have been added to the range of models.
