The company was founded on May 11, 1992 in Wuhan . Were involved Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Citroën . The production of automobiles began. The brand name was initially Shenlong .

In September 2002 Peugeot joined the company. Since then the company name has been Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile . The vehicles are marketed as Citroën and Peugeot. The Shenlong brand name expired in 2004.
