Life

Käthe Brandt was the daughter of the technical and artistic chief inspector of the Royal Drama in Berlin, Fritz Brandt . Although her father kept her off the stage in her childhood despite his profession, she was driven by an irresistible passion for the theater. Prepared for the stage career by Heinrich Oberländer , she made her debut in 1898 as "Turandot" in Düsseldorf, after daring her first theatrical attempt on April 17th of that year as "Jane Eyre" in Lowood's orphan at the Royal Court Stage in Berlin.

In 1899 she came to Graz (inaugural role "Julie"), in 1900 at the Hoftheater in Wiesbaden, where she also made her debut as "Julie", but after a year there she embarked for New York to continue her acting career at the Irwingplacetheater.

She played her roles with a surprising understanding that completely obscured her youth. In addition to "Julie", "Ophelie", "Louise", "Desdemona", "Gretchen" etc., the roles of sentimental lovers in modern pieces also brought her rich applause.

Already on January 12, 1902, she died in Maluk Hospital just before the wedding with Albert tear at a peritonitis . She was a great niece of Richard Wagner .
