Black Angel cable car

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transport cable car Black Angel was a cable car in the Greenlandic mining settlement Maamorilik , responsible for transporting the mined ore, as well as goods and persons between the mine Den Sorte Engel ( english The Black Angel was built) and the location, while the fjord Affarlikassaa crossed.

The cable car built by the Swiss company Garaventa was in operation from August 15, 1973 and ran until the mine was closed in 1990.

With a pitch of 1580 m, it overcame an altitude difference of 446 m. It drove up to 250 times a day and with a payload of eleven tons was able to transport 160 tons of ore per hour at ten meters per second from the mine.

When they received approval in 2008 to reopen Maamorilik, the mining company Black Angel Mining also had the cable car rebuilt, for which Garaventa was commissioned again. However, for financial reasons, the project was canceled and mining in Maamorilik has not resumed to this day.
