Hünningen is a district of Sankt Vith in the German-speaking Community in Belgium . The place has 201 inhabitants (information as of December 31, 2015).

geography

Hünningen is located around two kilometers northwest of the center of Sankt Vith on the road towards Emmels . In the southeast of the village, the settlement areas of Hünningens have merged with the core town of Sankt Vith. The wider area around the village is characterized by agricultural grassland. Hünningen lies exactly on the watershed between the Meuse and the Rhine .

Motorway 27 ( Europastraße 42 ) runs southwest of the village , to which the town is directly connected via the Sankt Vith-Nord exit.

history

Hünningen was probably founded around 1250 as a hostel in front of the city gates of Sankt Vith. In 1797 the neighboring villages of Hünningen, Ober-Emmels, Nieder-Emmels, Rodt and Hinderhausen were incorporated into the Crombach community . This municipality existed until the Belgian territorial reform in 1977 , when the entire region was merged into the new large municipality of Sankt Vith.
