Emmels is a village in the German-speaking Community in Belgium . It consists of the two districts of Ober-Emmels and Nieder-Emmels , both of which belong to the municipality of Sankt Vith . Emmels has 745 inhabitants (information as of December 31, 2018).

geography

Emmels is located around four kilometers northwest of the core town of Sankt Vith. Both districts are located on the Emmels Bach , a tributary of the Amel . The higher located Ober-Emmels is southwest of the lower Nieder-Emmels. The area around the village is characterized by agricultural grassland. To the west of the village runs the Autobahn 27 ( Europastraße 42 ).

history

The name Emmels is probably derived from the word Amel . In 1797 the neighboring villages of Ober-Emmels, Nieder-Emmels, Hünningen , Rodt and Hinderhausen were incorporated into the Crombach community . This municipality existed until the Belgian territorial reform in 1977 , when the entire region was merged into the new large municipality of Sankt Vith.
