Hinderhausen is a village in the German-speaking Community in Belgium and part of the municipality of St. Vith . Hinderhausen has 376 inhabitants (information as of December 31, 2015).

geography

Hinderhausen is around seven kilometers west of the city center of Sankt Vith. The area around the village is characterized by agricultural grassland, with larger forest areas in the north and west. Two hamlets belong to Hinderhausen: Kapellen, about one kilometer to the south-west, has 46 inhabitants and Oberst-Crombach, which adjoins Hinderhausen to the north-west, has 72 inhabitants.

history

Hinderhausen was probably founded around 1000 AD, as the ending "-hausen" suggests. The place was first mentioned in 1495 as "Hudershusen". From 1794 Hinderhausen belonged to the municipality of Crombach until it came to the new large municipality of Sankt Vith as part of the Belgian regional reform in 1977 . Since 1924 Hinderhausen has formed a parish association with the neighboring village of Rodt .
