Salvatore Lauricella (born May 18, 1922 in Ravanusa , Province of Agrigento ; † November 7, 1996 in Catania , Province of Catania ) was an Italian politician of the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI), who was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) between 1963 and 1994 was. He held several ministerial offices in different governments. He was also President of PSI between 1978 and 1993 and President of the Regional Parliament of the Autonomous Region of Sicily from 1981 to 1991 .

Life

Lawyer and member of the Chamber of Deputies

After attending school, Lauricella studied law and then worked as a lawyer . In the elections of April 28, 1963 , he was elected as a candidate for the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI) for the first time to the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) , to which he belonged for almost 31 years until the elections on March 28, 1994 . At the beginning of his parliamentary membership he was in the fourth legislative period from July 1963 to January 1964 a member of the Judiciary Committee and then from January 1964 to January 1965 a member of the Committee on Public Works. Fanach he was from January 1965 to January 1966 a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Forests and between January 1966 and June 1968 a member of the Defense Committee. During the fifth legislative period, from July 1968 to May 1972, he was a member of the Committee on Transport, Civil Aviation, Merchant Navy and Post and Telecommunications.

Minister and President of PSI

On December 12, 1968, he assumed his first ministerial office in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Mariano Rumor and until August 5, 1969, he served as a minister without portfolio for the coordination of initiatives for scientific research and technology (Ministro senza Portafoglio con delega per la Ricerca Scientifica) . In the sixth legislative period between May 1972 and July 1974 he was a member of the Committee on Affairs of the Prime Minister, Home Affairs, Religion and Public Corporations. In the fourth and fifth Rumor Cabinets , he served again as Minister of Public Works between July 7, 1973 and November 23, 1974. In addition, he was from July 1974 to January 1975 a member of the Committee on Budget, Programs and State Contributions and between January and February 1975 briefly a member of the Committee on Public Works. He was a member of the Finance and Treasury Committee from February 1975 to July 1976.

During the seventh legislative period, Lauricella was again a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Forestry from July 1976 to June 1979. During the term of office of party secretary Bettino Craxi , he succeeded Alberto Cipellini as party president of PSI on April 24, 1978 and held this position until he was replaced by Vita Rocco on February 22, 1993.

President of the Regional Parliament of Sicily

In the eighth legislative period he was again from July 1979 to March 1981 a member of the Committee on Affairs of the Prime Minister, Home Affairs, Religion and Public Corporations.

In addition to his membership in the Chamber of Deputies, Lauricella succeeded Michelangelo Russo as President of the Regional Parliament of the Autonomous Region of Sicily ( Assemblea Regionale Siciliana ) on June 21, 1981 and held this position for ten years until he was replaced by Paolo Piccione on June 16, 1991.

Lauricella was last from June 1992 to April 1994 a member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, the Prime Minister and Home Affairs.
