Ravanusa is an Italian municipality in the open community consortium of Agrigento on the Mediterranean island of Sicily and thus belongs to the autonomous region of Sicily .

Location and dates

Ravanusa is 56 kilometers east of Agrigento and 24 kilometers north of Licata . 11,108 residents live here (as of December 31, 2019), who mainly work in agriculture. Grain, almonds, wine and olives are produced.

The place shared the train station Campobello-Ravanusa with the place Campobello di Licata . The station was on the Canicattì – Syracuse railway line . The nearest hospital is in Canicattì, 17 kilometers from Ravanusa and ten kilometers from Campobello.

The neighboring municipalities are Butera ( CL ), Campobello di Licata , Licata , Mazzarino (CL), Naro , Riesi (CL) and Sommatino (CL).

history

The area around Ravanusa was already settled in the 7th century BC. The exact founding date of today's community is unknown, it is in the period from 1616 to 1625.

Attractions

The parish church, which was built in the 17th century, is worth seeing. The San Giorgo Church was built in the 15th century by religious.

The excavation sites on Monte Saraceno are about 1.5 kilometers outside the city. Here a Greek settlement from the 7th century BC is being explored, but it cannot be visited as it is located on private land. Monte Saraceno is actually not a Monte (mountain), but rather a hill that has been fenced in for about seven years.
