Casteltermini is a town in the free municipal consortium of Agrigento in the region of Sicily in Italy with 7738 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Casteltermini is 47 km north of Agrigento . The main industries are salt production and agriculture.

The neighboring communities are Acquaviva Platani ( CL ), Aragona , Cammarata , Campofranco (CL), San Biagio Platani , Sant'Angelo Muxaro , Santo Stefano Quisquina and Sutera (CL).

history

The Arab hamlet of Chiudia was located on the site of today's location. The present place was founded in 1629 by G. Vincenzo Maria Termini.

Attractions

The church on Domplatz dates from the 17th century and was significantly rebuilt in the 19th century. The church consists of three naves and contains old paintings. The church of Sant 'Antonio di Padova was built in 1645. Here and in the church of SS. Cosma e Damiano, built in 1767, services are no longer held. The 17th century church of San Giuseppe is on Via Umberto I.

Events

Chiesa di Santa Croce

The Sagra del Tatarata , also known as the Festa di Santa Croce (Feast of the Holy Cross), takes place on the fourth Sunday in May . This reminds of a wooden cross found here in 1667, which was supposedly used as an instrument of torture during the persecution of Christians in the 3rd century. The procession is accompanied by riders wielding sabers and drumming in historical costumes.

On the last Sunday in August, the city hosts La festa di San Calogero . Saint Calogero is carried through the city in a procession and many believers walk barefoot so that their requests are heard. After the procession, spaghetti is distributed free of charge at many of the cooking areas that were set up for the festival.
