Joppolo Giancaxio is a community in the municipality consortium Agrigento outdoors in the region Sicily in Italy .

Location and dates

Joppolo Giancaxio is 16 kilometers north of Agrigento inland. 1151 residents live here (as of December 31, 2019) who mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Agrigento , Aragona , Raffadali and Santa Elisabetta .

history

The present parish was founded in 1693 by Calogero Gabriele Colonna. Joppolo Giancaxio belonged to Aragona until 1926, when the municipality became independent.

Attractions

The place has two main streets, Corso Umberto and Via Progresso, which are at right angles to each other. The parish church dates from the 18th century. The Colonna Castle has a tower and crenellated walls, it is privately owned.
