Grotto is an Italian municipality in the consortium of municipalities Agrigento outdoors in the autonomous region of Sicily .

Location and dates

Grotto is 19 km northeast of Agrigento . 5466 inhabitants live here (as of December 31, 2019), who mainly work in agriculture ( almonds and wine ).

The neighboring communities are Aragona , Campofranco ( CL ), Comitini , Favara , Milena (CL) and Racalmuto .

history

Grotto was founded in Greek times (see Magna Graecia ). The place got its name from the many grottos that exist in the municipality.
