Aragona is an Italian municipality in the consortium of municipalities Agrigento outdoors in the autonomous region of Sicily .

Location and dates

Aragona is 16 km north of Agrigento in the valley of the Platani river . The city has 9195 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), who mainly work in agriculture ( grain and fruit growing ).

The neighboring communities are Agrigento , Campofranco ( CL ), Casteltermini , Comitini , Favara , Grotte , Joppolo Giancaxio , Sant'Angelo Muxaro and Santa Elisabetta .

history

Aragona was 1606 by Baldassare III. Naselli founded. The name was chosen in honor of the mother Beatrice Aragona Branciforte. In 1615 the Naselli family was given the title of Prince of Aragona.
