Koers is a north German family name .

Origin and meaning

The family name "Koers" belongs to the group of patronyms (father names ) and is derived from an old German personal name.

The family name leads back to the name "Kordes", which is a patronymic form (strong genitive) for "Kord" and is in turn a Low German form of " Konrad " created by contraction . The personal name "Konrad" is a family name derived from the old German nickname and is composed of "kuoni" in the sense of "kühn, brave, strong" and "rat" in the sense of "advice, advice, advice". Thus the personal name "Konrad" stands with its meaning for "bold in the council, bold adviser".
