Mariano Rumor
Mariano Rumor (born June 16, 1915 in Vicenza , † January 22, 1990 in Rome ) was an Italian politician . He was Prime Minister of Italy from 1968 to 1970 and from 1973 to 1974.
In 1946 he was a member of the Constituent Assembly; subsequently he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies until 1979 . He took over his first government office in 1959 as Minister of the Interior, before becoming Minister of the Interior for the first time in 1963; he held this position again between 1972 and 1973. He also served from 1964 to 1969 as chairman (segretario) of the Democrazia Cristiana .
In addition, he was Italian Foreign Minister from 1974 to 1976, succeeding Aldo Moro, and as such President of the Council of Ministers of the European Communities in the second half of 1975. Rumor was also President of the International Union of Christian Democrats. In 1979 he entered the Italian Senate and the first European Parliament .
