Giuseppe Pella

Giuseppe Pella (born April 18, 1902 in Valdengo , Piedmont , † May 31, 1981 in Rome ) was an Italian politician .

He was Prime Minister of his country from August 17, 1953 to January 5, 1954 and foreign minister on several occasions . He was also President of the European Parliament from 1954 to 1956 (after the death of Alcide De Gasperi ) .

Pella studied economics at the universities of Rome and Turin . Immediately after the liberation of Italy from the fascists, he became a member of the Democrazia Cristiana . He soon became, under Alcide De Gasperi, State Secretary for Finance and, from the fourth De Gasperi government, Finance Minister and Treasury and Budget Minister (1948 to 1953).
