Fabrizio Saccomanni (born November 22, 1942 in Rome - † August 8, 2019 ) was an Italian economist . From 2006 to 2013 he was General Manager of Banca d'Italia . From April 2013 to February 2014 he was Minister of Economics and Finance in the Letta cabinet . In April 2018 Fabrizio Saccomanni took over the chairmanship of the board of directors of the Italian UniCredit SpA, whose subsidiary UniCredit Bank AG - known under the brand "Hypovereinsbank" (HVB) - is active in Germany.

Life

Fabrizio Saccomanni studied economics at Luigi Bocconi University of Economics in Milan and at Princeton University in New Jersey . In 1967 he joined the Italian central bank, which he also represented at the International Monetary Fund , the European Central Bank , the Bank for International Settlements and the European Union . From 2003 to 2006 he was also Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development . As General Director of the Bank of Italy, he also became President of the Insurance Supervisory Authority IVASS in 2013 . Saccomanni was a member of the management or supervisory bodies of some scientific organizations and societies.

On April 28, 2013, the non-party Fabrizio Saccomanni was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance of Italy. When he was appointed, it was emphasized that he was one of the non-party “technocrats” after the Letta cabinet replaced a previous cabinet that consisted only of non-party ministers.

In 2018 Fabrizio Saccomanni took over the chairmanship of the board of directors of the major Italian bank UniCredit from Giuseppe Vita . He passed away in summer 2019 while on vacation in Sardinia.
