Gaetano Stammati

Gaetano Stammati (born October 5, 1908 in Naples ; † February 11, 2002 ) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) from 1976 to 1983 and was several times a minister of various governments.

Life

Stammati worked as a freelance lecturer for economics , finance and finance law and between September 14, 1967 and April 22, 1972 head of the State Accounting Office ( Ragioneria generale dello Stato ).

On February 12, 1976 he was appointed Prime Minister Aldo Moro as Minister of Finance ( Ministro delle finanze ) in his fifth cabinet and held this office until July 28, 1976. In the meantime, he became a member of the DC for the first time in the June 20, 1976 elections elected by the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) and represented the interests of the Lazio region until July 11, 1983 . During his Senate membership, he was in the seventh legislative period between July 1976 and September 1979 a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Treasury.

In the third Andreotti cabinet, Stammati held the office of Minister of the Treasury ( Ministro del tesoro ) from July 29, 1976 to March 10, and was then Minister for Public Works ( Ministro dei lavori pubblici ) between March 11, 1978 and March 19, 1979 in the fourth Andreotti cabinet , before he was Minister for Foreign Trade ( Ministro del commercio con l'estero ) in the fifth Andreotti cabinet and in the first Cossiga cabinet from March 20 to April 3, 1980 .

During the eighth legislative period, Stammati was also a member of the Permanent Senate Committee for Justice from September 1979 to April 1980 and then between April 1980 and July 1983 a member of the Permanent Senate Committee for the Budget. After his membership in the Masonic Lodge Propaganda Due (P2) became known on May 20, 1981 , he largely withdrew from political life.
