Athos Valsecchi (* 26. November 1919 in Gravedona , Como Province , † 21st July 1985 in Rome ) was an Italian politician of the Christian Democrats (DC), the 1948 to 1963 member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) and from 1963 to 1976 member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) . He was also minister several times, including finance minister and health minister of Italy . For a while he was also a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Member of the Chamber of Deputies and Undersecretary of State

Athos Valsecchi graduated with a laureate in lettere and then worked as a teacher and publicist . On June 1, 1948, he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) for the first time in the Como province for the Democrazia Cristiana (DC ) . In the second legislative period he served between December 16, 1955 and June 11, 1958 as Vice-President of the Committee on Finance and Treasury (IV Commissione (Finanze e Tesoro)) . In the third legislative period he was in the Fanfani II cabinet between July 3, 1958 and February 15, 1959, Undersecretary of State in the Budget Ministry (Sottosegratario di Stato al Bilancio) and in the subsequent Segni II cabinet from February 19, 1959 to March 25, 1960, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance (Sottosegratario di Stato alle Finanze) . Valsecchi, who was mayor of Chiavenna between 1951 and 1956 and again from 1964 to 1970 and temporarily president of the Adda mountain catchment area consortium (Bacino Imbrifero Montano) , became a member of the DC's Senate on April 28, 1963 in the fourth legislative period ( Senato della Repubblica ) . Valsecchi was also President of the National Federation of Mountain Areas FEDERBIM (Federazione nazionale dei consorzi di bacino imbrifero montano) and President of the Provincial Association of Direct Growers of Sondrio (Federazione provinciale dei coltivatori diretti di Sondrio) . In the sixth legislative period he finally held the office of finance minister (Ministro delle finanze) in the Andreotti II cabinet from June 26, 1972 to July 5, 1973 . On July 4, 1976, he resigned from the Senate. His marriage to Marisa Gallegioni in Chiavenna in 1948 had three children.
