Giovanni Tria (2018)

Giovanni Tria (born September 28, 1948 in Rome ) is an Italian economist , lawyer and university professor.

From June 2018 to September 2019 he was the independent Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance in the Conte I cabinet .

biography

Giovanni Tria studied to 1971 law at the La Sapienza University and was then professor of economics , macroeconomics and history of economic thought at the University of Perugia and the University of Rome I . He is currently Full Professor of Political Economy at the Roman University of Tor Vergata , and since 2017 also Dean of the Faculty of Economics there.

His other professional experiences include a. working as co-director of the master’s degree in Development Economics and International Cooperation at his university. Tria was also the director of the Center for Economics and International Studies (CEIS) there. At the OECD , he was a member of the “Expert Group on Innovation Strategy of the OECD” and Deputy Chairman of the former Committee on Information, Computer and Communication Policy (ICCP). He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and President of the national Scuola Nazionale dell'Amministrazione .

He is not considered a supporter of an exit from the euro by Italy. A few days after the Conte I cabinet took office, he said that leaving the euro was out of the question. As Minister of Economics, it is his duty to ensure that Italy's membership in the euro is undisputed.
