Bruno Visentini (born August 1, 1914 in Treviso , † February 13, 1995 in Rome ) was an Italian politician .

Life

Visentini studied law at the University of Padua . In 1941 he emigrated to France, where he was arrested in 1943, and returned to Italy after the demise of Benito Mussolini . Together with Ugo La Malfa, he founded the Italian Partito d'Azione . In 1946 he joined the liberal Partito Repubblicano Italiano and became a professor at the University of Urbino . From 1950 to 1970 he was vice-president of the Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale and from 1962 to 1983 - with a short interruption - chairman of the Olivetti company .

In 1972 he was elected as a member of the Camera dei deputati . From November 23, 1974 to February 12, 1976 he was the successor to Mario Tanassi Finance Minister in Italy. In 1976 Visentini was elected to the Senate of Italy . As the successor to Ugo La Malfa, he was budget minister from March 29, 1979 to July 14, 1979. In the 1980s he was again Minister of Finance as successor to Francesco Forte from August 4, 1983 to April 17, 1987. He was a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1984 and again from 1989 to 1994, where he was senior president from 1992 to 1994 .
