Mario Tanassi

Mario Tanassi (born March 17, 1916 in Ururi , Molise , † May 5, 2007 in Rome ) was an Italian politician of the Partito Socialista Democratico Italiano (PSDI).

Life

From 1963 to 1979 he was a member of the Camera dei deputati . From 1964 to 1966, from February to June 1972 and 1975/76 he was Segretario (roughly equivalent to a party leader) of the PSDI. In the late 1960s and in the 1970s he was several times as an economic (1968-69), defense (1970-74) and Minister of Finance (March to November 1974) in various government cabinets under the prime minister Emilio Colombo , Giulio Andreotti and Mariano Rumor active . Under Andreotti he was Deputy Prime Minister 1973/74. Tanassi was sentenced to prison by the Constitutional Court in the 1979 Lockheed scandal for corruption , while his predecessor Luigi Gui ( DC ) was acquitted.
