Salvatore "Salvo" Andò (born February 13, 1945 in Giarre , Province of Catania ) is an Italian lawyer , university professor and politician of the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI), who between 1979 and 1994 was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) and, among other things, Minister of Defense Italy was. He is currently the rector of the University of Enna .

Life

After attending school, Andò studied law and began his political career during his studies when, as a candidate for the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI), he was elected a member of the Giarre City Council in 1970, to which he was a member for 21 years until 1991. After completing his studies, he was first lecturer in public law at the University of Bologna between 1972 and 1974 and then from 1975 to 1977 lecturer in public law in the USA at the University of Catania , before teaching there between 1977 and 1980. He then taught public law at the University of Catania between 1980 and 2002 as an associate professor .

In the elections of June 27, 1979 , Andò was elected for the first time as a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei deputati) for the PSI in the electoral district of Catania and belonged to it from the eighth to the end of the eleventh legislative period on April 14, 1994.

At the beginning of his parliamentary membership he was from May 22, 1980 to July 15, 1981 Vice-Chairman of the Committee for Education and Fine Arts and later between December 9, 1981 and July 1, 1987, Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into Masonic Propaganda Due (P2). During the tenth and eleventh legislative periods he was chairman of the PSI parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies from April 19, 1991 to June 28, 1992 .

On June 28, 1992 Andò was appointed by Prime Minister Giuliano Amato as Minister of Defense (Ministro della Difesa) in his first cabinet , to which he was a member until April 28, 1993.

After leaving the government and the Chamber of Deputies, he became visiting professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Malta in 1994 , where he taught until 2007.

Since 2004 he has been the founding rector of the University of Enna. In 2005 he also took on a full professorship at the Chair of Constitutional Law at the University of Catania.
