Juan de Dios Peña Rojas

Juan de Dios Peña Rojas (born August 8, 1967 in Mérida ) is a Venezuelan clergyman and bishop of El Vigía-San Carlos del Zulia .

Life

Juan de Dios Peña Rojas studied from 1985 at the seminary in Mérida and graduated in theology from the Pontifical University Xaveriana in Bogotá . He received on 22 August 1992 Archbishop Baltazar Porras the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Mérida .

In the following years he obtained a licentiate in theology at the University Institute of Santa Rosa de Lima in Caracas and a licentiate in church history at the Pontifical Gregorian University . From 1992 to 1995 he was professor and institute director at the seminary in Mérida and at the same time active in youth ministry and diocesan administration. Further teaching activities at the same seminar followed in the years 1996 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2011.

At times he was active in pastoral care. He was also secretary to the council of priests. Since 2005 he has headed the historical commission in the beatification process for Georgina Febres Cordero . He was a member of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Mérida and was appointed Cathedral Chapter . Since 2011 he has been the Regens of the Mérida seminary.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of El Vigía-San Carlos del Zulia on April 17, 2015 . The Archbishop of Mérida, Baltazar Porras, donated him episcopal ordination on July 4th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Maracaibo , Ubaldo Ramón Santana Sequera FMI , and the Bishop of Barinas , José Luis Azuaje Ayala .
