history

The diocese of El Vigía-San Carlos del Zulia was established on July 7, 1994 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum Antistites from territories of the Archbishopric of Maracaibo and Mérida and the Diocese of Cabimas and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Maracaibo as a suffragan .
