history

The diocese of Punto Fijo was established on July 12, 1997 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad melius prospiciendum from assignments of territory by the diocese of Coro . The first bishop was Juan María Leonardi Villasmil .

It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Coro as a suffragan .
