Juan María Leonardi Villasmil (born February 11, 1947 in Boconó , † June 7, 2014 in Maracaibo ) was a Venezuelan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Punto Fijo .

Life

Juan María Leonardi Villasmil studied economics from 1965 to 1969 at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas . In 1973 he entered the St. Joseph Seminary in Caracas and studied philosophy. In 1976 he moved to study theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On August 4, 1979 he was ordained a priest . After working at the Seminario Santa Rosa de Lima in Caracas, he studied dogmatics and ecclesiology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome from 1984 to 1986 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Mérida on January 27, 1994 and appointed him titular bishop of Lesvi . He was ordained episcopal on April 8th of the same year by the Archbishop of Mérida, Baltazar Enrique Porras Cardozo ; Co- consecrators were Miguel Antonio Salas Salas CIM , Old Archbishop of Mérida, and Vicente Ramón Hernández Peña , Bishop of Trujillo . He chose PARATE VIAS DOMINI as his motto .

On July 12, 1997, he was appointed Bishop of Punto Fijo by Pope John Paul II , and on August 30, 1997, he was appointed to the office.
