Boconó

Boconó is a city in the southeast of the state of Trujillo , in Venezuela . The city is the seat of government of the Trujillo community. In 2001 Boconó had 79,710 inhabitants. Boconó is connected to Biscucuy in Portuguesa by National Road 7 and to the west by National Road 3.

history

Until 1548 the area was populated by several tribes of the Cuica ethnic group: Tirandaes, Boconoes, Mosqueyes, Tostosen. Their names are still reflected in the toponomy of the region. The Boconó settlement was founded in 1563. From 1606, with the construction of a hermitage, the village became known as the Pueblo de Doctrinas.

In 1955 an airport was completed and on September 3rd the first plane landed in Boconó.
