The Archdiocese of Coro ( lat. : Archidioecesis Corensis , span. : Archidiócesis de Coro ) is in Venezuela situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Coro . It covers part of the Venezuelan state of Falcón .
history
For the first time the diocese was founded on June 21, 1531 from cession of territory from the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo . On July 20, 1637, the cathedral chapter was transferred to Santiago de León de Caracas .
Pope Pius XI founded it on October 12, 1922 with the bull Ad munus from territorial cession of the diocese of Barquisimeto for the second time. It was also subordinated to the Archdiocese of Maracaibo as a suffragan diocese.
It lost part of its territory on July 12, 1997 in favor of the establishment of the diocese of Punto Fijo . With the Apostolic Constitution Usque omnium it was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan Archdiocese on November 23, 1998 .
