The Archdiocese of Cumana ( lat. : Archidioecesis Cumanensis , span. : Archidiócesis de Cumaná ) is in Venezuela situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Cumana . It covers part of the Venezuelan state of Sucre .
history
Pope Pius XI founded it on October 12, 1922 with the bull Ad munus from cession of territory of the diocese Ciudad Bolívar and was subordinate to the archdiocese of Caracas as a suffragan diocese. On June 21, 1958, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Ciudad Bolívar .
With the Apostolic Constitution Necessitate adducti it was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan Archbishopric on May 16, 1992 .
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- July 18, 1969 to the diocese of Margarita ;
- April 4, 2000 to the diocese of Carúpano .
