The Archdiocese of Calabozo ( Latin Archidioecesis Calabocensis , Spanish Archidiócesis de Calabozo ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Calabozo . It includes a. Part of the Venezuelan state of Guárico .
history
Pope Leo XIII. founded it on April 11, 1900 from cessions of territory of the diocese of Mérida and the archdiocese of Caracas , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese. The first bishop was not appointed until 1881.
On June 17, 1995, it was raised to the rank of Metropolitan Archdiocese.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- June 7, 1954 to the Diocese of Guanare and the Territorial Prelature of San Fernando de Apure ;
- June 21, 1958 to the Diocese of Maracay ,
- July 23, 1965 to the Diocese of Barinas ,
- July 25, 1992 to the diocese of Valle de la Pascua .
