Antonio José López Castillo

Antonio José López Castillo (born July 9, 1945 in San Rafael de Mara ) is a Venezuelan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Barquisimeto .

Life

Antonio José López Castillo was ordained a priest on July 18, 1970 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on February 26, 1988 auxiliary bishop in Maracaibo and titular bishop of Theuzi . He was ordained episcopate on May 28 of the same year by the Archbishop of Maracaibo, Domingo Roa Pérez ; Co- consecrators were Medardo Luis Luzardo Romero , Archbishop of Ciudad Bolívar , and Roberto Lückert León , Bishop of Cabimas .

He was appointed Bishop of Barinas on August 1, 1992, and was introduced to the office on October 31 of the same year. On December 27, 2001, he was named Archbishop of Calabozo . Benedict XVI. appointed him on December 22, 2007 Archbishop of Barquisimeto.

On October 5, 2018, Pope Francis appointed the Bishop of San Felipe , Víctor Hugo Basabe , as Apostolic Administrator sede plena , by which his jurisdiction is suspended with immediate effect. On March 25, 2020, Pope Francis accepted Antonio José López Castillo's resignation.
