Víctor Hugo Basabe (born December 17, 1961 in Bobures , Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of San Felipe .

Life

Before entering the seminary, Víctor Hugo Basabe studied law and worked as a lawyer . After studying at the seminary in Barquisimeto , he continued his training at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and obtained a licentiate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Lateran University . On August 19, 2000 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of El Vigía-San Carlos del Zulia .

In addition to pastoral care, he was chancellor and moderator of the diocesan curia. Eventually he became Undersecretary of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference and its General Secretary in 2015.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of San Felipe on March 11, 2016 . He received his episcopal ordination on May 21 of the same year by the Bishop of Barinas , José Luis Azuaje Ayala . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of San Cristóbal de Venezuela , Mario del Valle Moronta Rodríguez , and his predecessor Nelson Antonio Martinez Rust .

On October 5, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator sede plena of the Archdiocese of Barquisimeto , whereby the jurisdiction of Archbishop Antonio José López Castillo is suspended with immediate effect.
