Franco Restivo
Francesco "Franco" Restivo (* 25. May 1911 in Palermo ; † 17th April 1976 in Francavilla di Sicilia , Province of Messina ) was an Italian jurist and politician of the Christian Democrats , both President of the Autonomous Region of Sicily as well as indoor and Defense Italy and was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) from 1958 until his death .
Life
President of Sicily and MP
Restivo, son of the lawyer and MP Empedocle Restivo , studied law at the University of Palermo after completing his studies in 1943 , where he initially became a lecturer in constitutional law at the Faculty of Law , before becoming a lecturer in public law at the Faculty of Economics and Commerce the University of Palermo was.
In 1949 he succeeded Giuseppe Alessi as President of the Autonomous Region of Sicily and held this position until his replacement by Alessi in 1955.
On June 1, 1958, he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies for the first time as a candidate of the DC and represented the constituency of Palermo for almost 18 years until his death . During his long membership in parliament, he was initially a member of various parliamentary committees and, from December 1960 to May 1963, chaired the special committee for the review of Law No. 195 on the general administrative provisions, which was introduced by the MP Roberto Lucifredi .
Subsequently, during the fourth legislative period between July 1963 and February 1966, he was one of the vice-presidents of the Camera dei deputati and, from June 1963 to February 1966, chairman of the parliamentary committee for the control of national radio and television of the Radiotelevisione Italiana . He was also chairman of a parliamentary committee of inquiry between February 1964 and February 1966.

Thereafter, Restivo was appointed by Prime Minister Aldo Moro to Minister for Agriculture and Forestry ( Ministro dell'Agricoltura i Foreste ) in his third cabinet on February 23, 1966 , to which he was a member until June 24, 1968.
Subsequently, on June 24, 1968, Prime Minister Giovanni Leone appointed him Minister of the Interior ( Ministro dell'Interno ) in his second cabinet. He also held the office of Minister of the Interior in the subsequent governments of Prime Ministers Mariano Rumor and Emilio Colombo for almost four years until February 17, 1972.
Most recently, Restivo was Minister of Defense ( Ministro della Difesa ) in the first government of Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti from February 17 to June 26, 1972 . During this time he was also Chancellor and Treasurer of the Military Order ( Ordine militare d'Italia ).
