Giuseppe "Beppe" Pisanu (born January 2, 1937 in Ittiri , Sassari province ) is an Italian economic manager , politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), Forza Italia and the Popolo della Libertà (PdL).

Life

After attending school, he studied agricultural science and after graduating ( laureate ) became a manager of public companies.

His political career began when he was elected as a candidate for the DC on May 25, 1972 as a member of the Camera dei deputati (Chamber of Deputies) and in this until April 27, 2006 the constituency of Cagliari or the XXVI. Constituency of Sardinia .

In October 1980 he became Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of the Treasury in the cabinet of Prime Minister Arnaldo Forlani and held this office in the subsequent two cabinets of Giovanni Spadolini and in the fifth cabinet of Amintore Fanfani until January 1983. In August 1986, he became the second cabinet of Prime Minister Bettino Craxi Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Defense and held this function in the subsequent sixth Fanfani cabinet and the first cabinet of Giovanni Goria and Ciriaco De Mita until July 1989.

After the dissolution of the DC he became a member of Forza Italia and was chairman of its parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies from May 1996 to June 2001 .

On June 11, 2001, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was appointed Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for the implementation of the government program. After a cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister of the Interior on July 3, 2002 and held this position in the second and third Berlusconi governments until May 17, 2006. In this position, he was most recently engaged in dialogue in view of developments and concerns about the anti-Muslim climate in Italy called to the Muslims of Italy .

Pisanu, who was awarded the Order of Constantine among others , was elected to the Senato della Repubblica (Senate) on April 9, 2006 as a representative of Forza Italia and has been a member of it ever since.
