Fabio Fabbri (born October 15, 1933 in Ciano d'Enza , Reggio Emilia province ) is an Italian lawyer and politician of the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI), who was a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) between 1976 and 1994 and between 1993 and 1994 Minister of Defense of Italy .

Life

After attending school, Fabbri completed a law degree and after graduating, started working as a lawyer.

In the elections of 20 June 1976 Fabbri was a candidate of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) for the Region of Emilia-Romagna for the first time as a member of the Senate (Senato della Repubblica) elected and was one of these by the end of the eleventh legislative term on 14 April 1994 on. At the beginning of his membership in parliament he was between July 27, 1976 and June 19, 1979 Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.

On April 5, 1980, Fabbri took over as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, his first government office in the second Cossiga cabinet . He also held this position in the Forlani cabinet and in the first and second Spadolini cabinet until November 30, 1982.

Subsequently, Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani appointed him on December 1, 1982, as Minister without Portfolio for Regional Affairs (Ministro senza portafoglio per gli affari regionali) in his fifth cabinet , to which he was a member until August 3, 1983.

During the ninth legislative period, Fabbri was chairman of the PSI parliamentary group in the Senate from July 22, 1983 to September 26, 1985 . He was later appointed by Prime Minister Bettino Craxi to his second cabinet , and between August 4, 1986 and April 16, 1987, he served as a minister without portfolio for the coordination of local politics (Ministro senza portafoglio per il coordinamento delle politiche comunitarie) .

Then he was again chairman of the PSI parliamentary group in the Senate during the tenth legislative period between July 9, 1987 and September 28, 1989. He held the office of chairman of the PSI parliamentary group again between April 30 and June 28, 1992 during the eleventh legislative period.

Subsequently, Fabbri acted from June 30, 1992 to April 27, 1993 as undersecretary in the office of Prime Minister Giuliano Amato in his first cabinet .

Then he was appointed on April 28, 1993 by Prime Minister Carlo Azeglio Ciampi as Minister of Defense (Ministro della Difesa) in his government , which he was a member until the end of Ciampi's term on May 9, 1994.

After leaving the government and the Senate, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on May 11, 1994 .
