Cabinet Fanfani V
The Fanfani V cabinet ruled Italy from December 1, 1982 to August 4, 1983. The government of Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani , like the previous Spadolini II cabinet, was based on a five-party coalition (Pentapartito) consisting of Christian Democrats (DC), Socialists (PSI), Social Democrats (PSDI), Republicans (PRI) and Liberals (PLI). The Republicans no longer took part in the government. Quite a few ministers remained at their posts or changed departments. The government resigned on May 2, 1983 because the strengthened socialists demanded early elections, which took place on June 27, 1983 . The fifth Fanfani cabinet remained in office until it was replaced by the Craxi I cabinet .
