Clelio Darida

Clelio Darida (born May 3, 1927 in Rome ; † May 11, 2017 ibid) was an Italian lawyer and politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was, among other things, mayor of Rome, member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) and several ministers .

Life

After attending school, Darida studied law and worked as a lawyer after completing her studies.

In 1969 he was elected mayor of Rome as a candidate for the Democrazia Cristiana and thus the successor of his party friend Rinaldo Santini . He held the office of mayor for seven years until he was replaced in 1976 by Giulio Carlo Argan , who ran for the Communist Party of Italy (PCI).

Subsequently, in the election of July 2, 1976 for the DC, he was elected for the first time as a member of the Chamber of Deputies, in which he represented the Roma constituency until April 22, 1992 .

Shortly thereafter, on July 31, 1976, Darida became Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of the Interior and held this position in the third, fourth and fifth governments of Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti and the first government of Francesco Cossiga until January 14, 1980.

As part of a government reshuffle, Prime Minister Cossiga appointed him Minister without Portfolio (Ministro senza Portafiglio) for relations with Parliament on January 14, 1980 . In the second government of Cossiga, he was Minister for Post and Telecommunications (Ministro delle Poste e Telecommunicazioni) from April 4 to October 18, 1980 , before becoming Minister-President Arnaldo Forlani minister without portfolio for public tasks Was appointed from October 1980 to June 28, 1981. Most recently, he was also the acting Minister of Justice of Italy (Ministro della Giustizia) from May 23 to June 28, 1981 .

He was then from June 28, 1981 to August 4, 1983 Minister of Justice in the first and second government of Prime Minister Giovanni Spadolini and in the fifth cabinet of Amintore Fanfani . On August 4, 1983, Darida was appointed Minister for State Participation (Ministro delle Partecipazioni Statale) by Prime Minister Bettino Craxi in his first cabinet and held this position in the second Craxi government and in the sixth Fanfani cabinet until July 28, 1987.
